Hosting my first DIY bouquet picnic!

Hi friends!

It’s a beautiful sunny day here in SF. I’m just chilling at home, editing content for From Remey IG, sipping on homemade matcha, with a true crime doc playing in the background. Summer is finally here in SF and I’m absolutely loving it!

After a slow and restful few months, I finally have more energy to socialize again. I hosted my first DIY bouquet picnic with a small group of friends and it was the cutest “analog” thing I’ve done in a while. I’m not a very crafty person, and I’m too impatient for handmade things, but I do love pretty flowers and dressing up for fun. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I think smaller, more intentionally curated groups are better for building connections. We all left feeling fulfilled, like one of my friends said. It was a very wholesome picnic!

I’d love to host more of these in the near future, but I’m also trying not to add too much to my plate again.Public events can wear on me quickly, simply because I’m not extroverted enough to be “on” constantly. So, once I figure out how many guests, and how often, I can host, I’ll bring picnic back!

Fashion

Mixing affordable pieces with high-end pieces

Top + skirt from Ross

I think designer pieces can be great investments if you love them enough to wear them all the time. I also think you can make affordable pieces look great if you have good taste. I rarely go shopping in person these days, but when I’m in the mood, I’d visit stores like Ross, Nordstrom Rack, and TJ Maxx for unique pieces. My picnic outfit was from Ross. It fit the vibes and I didn’t have to worry about ruining expensive clothes while sitting on the grass.

Culture

DIY gifts/party favors

Whenever I host a gathering (which is not very often), I always want my guests to leave with a small gift. Maybe this has something to do with me being an experience designer, but I care about how guests feel after they leave an event or use a service. I think small DIY thank-you gifts are not only a cute touch, but can also help extend the experience a little longer.

I made these tote bags a while back, and they were perfect for my friends to store their DIY bouquets for their commute home. I think they really tied the whole picnic together and made it a little more special!

Music

Now that AI music is a thing and I can’t trust jazz-edition or house-edit of anything anymore, I’m finding myself gravitating to performances with live bands. I always have a soft spot for French music, from Phoenix, Darius, to Miel De Montagne, and L’Impératrice. This is one of my favorite songs by L’Impératrice. I don’t speak French so I can’t tell you what the lyrics are about, but the mood feels introspective, sensual, and slightly melancholy. Perfect for a warm summer night with a glass of wine!
